Random Diary: Mini Haul (#01)

This is my first mini haul and I am excited to share what I’ve been obsessed for this past few weeks. I am not that Kikay as always but I love to dress up sometimes and enjoy myself out of it but most of the time, I am really into rugged and simple dress-up and stuffs. However, as I stay here in Dubai for almost 2 years I mostly enjoy collecting Pabebe dress (oops! Sorry), item collections and planning to become one of the travel and lifestyle vlogger (and currently I’m already practicing).

I will start my new journey to this lifestyle mini haul. I love to collect cute stuffs! First on the list is the Sanrio and Disney perfume, body wash and lip-gloss items.

I don’t know why but the Disney and Sanrio items, movies, series and characters make me happy and feel young. (Maybe that’s the sign that I enjoy my childhood days) ;)
  1. Sanrio Hello Kitty Perfume and Lip-gloss
  2. Disney Princesses Perfume and Shower Gel
  3. Disney Frozen Perfume
  4. Sanrio Hello Kitty Perfume and Shower Gel
These items are from UK under the imported goods here in Dubai and since they are on sale I bought all of this item while strolling at the store ;)

Second, since summer here in Dubai is like dehydrating yourself (haha) you must use at least a moisturizer to hydrate you skin (dry skin is not good/obviously) haha.  I’ve been using many moisturizing products (with name or not) but all fails! And recently my friend told me that she is using this moisturizing cream and it looks better on her skin so I bought one and try.

VLCC Moisturizing Cream – made in India but the ingredients are from UK. I don’t know if this is available in other countries.

Yes! Success! My skin glows more and it helps me a lot during the summer season here. I’m using this for almost 2 months now and I will check if this will work also in winter season. I am not a cosmetic fan (baby powder and lipstick is enough for me) that’s why I am so happy when I found the one for me. haha

Lastly, my bows headband that I am obsessed with. Everywhere I go once there is something like this I cannot stop myself from buying. hahaha

  1. 4 bow headbands for 2 months
  2. From Ilhahui foronly 7 dirhams
  3. Splash headband collection for only 10 dirhams
  4. Forever 21 items for 10 dirhams each

That's it! This is not travel related blog but this is one of the essentials to bring during the trips! (for your outfit matchy-matchy!) haha :p

Food Diary: Hopo Asian Hotpot Dishes

So this week is all about food! Yaaay! :D

New Asian cuisine restaurant is open at Manila building, Al Satwa Dubai. We had our 20% discount each during the soft opening and it’s a blast! The venue is excellent since it’s on the part of Dubai where almost all Filipino are staying. And we all know that Filipinos are crazy about food! (Guilty! :p)

The restaurant offers buffet, shabu-shabu, unlimited drinks and meal deals. But the most common on their menu is the buffet that costs 49 dirhams each and it’s all set from main course, dessert, shabu-shabu and drinks.

FOOD: As far as what I ate, all foods are Filipino dishes from plain and fried rice, viands, shabu-shabu’s ingredients and soup, desserts and drinks. Everything on the counter was great!!

STAFF: Very accommodating and approachable.

THE RESTAURANT: I love the logo! The exterior design is same as in Nobu, while the interior design is like a Japanese - Chinese inspired restaurant.

OVERALL: I believe in First impression lasts so definitely we will definitely come back soon

Here is our VLOG for HOPO Restaurant

Things you need to know before travelling to Dubai

When you are first time in Dubai, you need to know what are the basic Do’s and Don’ts while staying for vacation or work. Dubai is not a democratic country and you need to follow the Muslim and Sharia law whereas the law and culture are very different from Western laws. Once you are in other place or country, it is respectful to abide by the laws of the place you are visiting. Here are the lists that you need to remember:

When in Public

  •  Men are not allowed in women and children cabin while in public transportation such as Metro and Bus.
  • Men must wear top unless they are on the beach/at the pool as well as women can wear bikinis. This swim wear should not be worn in any other area outside the beach, water parks or swimming pools.
  • You should dress conservatively.
  • Kissing, holding hands and cuddling are not allowed.
  •  Playing loud music (e.g. Bus, Metro, Park, any public areas)
  • No drink and drive
  • Tattooed man should cover up the part with dress if it has offensive image or slogans.
  • No dancing in public areas.
  • Don’t take any photos of strangers and official buildings.
Common Things to Remember
  • Weekends are from Thursday to Saturday, not Friday to Sunday.
  • The Islamic call to prayer is 5 times a day and open to public speaker systems. Don’t worry its normal!
  • Night life in Dubai is normally in swanky hotels where clubs are located.
  • Drugs are strictly forbidden.
  • Unmarried couples cohabiting are illegal.
  • Pornography and pornographic images in media and websites are banned.
  • Working without proper visa is illegal.
  •  Drive if you have international driving license
  • Locate the embassy of your country and information for emergency purposes
  • Use right hand to greet someone, give or accept something
  • Always bring and keep safe all your passport, visa, money and important documents.
During Ramadan Season

  • Expect different city during Ramadan
  • You cannot eat, drink, chew gum, or smoke in public daylight. Nothing is permitted to pass through the mouth between sunrise and sunset.
  • Many restaurants are closed during day but some has screen in the windows to prevent passersby from seeing inside.
  • Dress more conservatively.
  • Iftar night buffets are everywhere.
  • At the end of the Ramadan, Eid Al-Fitr follows which has three-day festival where families exchange gifts and public events are everywhere.

Cheap destinations in Dubai

When I’m saying cheap travel this is literally cheap. We are really on budget every time we travel. Sometimes we will only let our money slide on transportation, dinner and at least not more than 5 dirham entrance fee. We are fond on discovering new sites that are cheaper but worth it. And if we want a trip that will cost much, we will have at least a month or two to prepare and set everything. As far as our adventure go, the cheap destinations that we went to never fails us to amaze. Here are the lists of cheap travel destination in Dubai:

  • The Dubai Fountain – free dance fountain show every 30 min. Labeled as the world’s largest choreographed fountain.
  • Dubai Aquarium – this aquarium is visible in 2 floors of Dubai Mall. It is free if you will just enjoy and take pictures from outside. But the tour inside with Underwater Zoo has its own fee.
  • Sega Worldtouring around this entertainment place in Dubai Mall is free, no entrance fee or anything but once you want to play and ride that’s the time you need to pay for the price.
  • Burj Khalifa – you are free to take picture with the tallest building in the world at its base from Dubai Fountain in Dubai Mall.
  • Abra Ridewaterway transportation that only cost 1 dirham per ticket in Old Dubai.
  • Dubai Museum - at 3 dirham for adult and 1 dirham for children you can experience the historical crafts and story of Dubai.
  • The Beach JBRan open beach where you can enjoy and relax while swimming under the sun. After swimming you can troll around the fancy murals of The Walk JBR.
  • Burj Al Arabthe first 7 star-hotel in the world. You can take a picture of it from outside or from Umm Suqueim Beach.
  • Kite Beach - an open beach near the Burj Al Arab. There is also a corniche beside the ocean for you to exercise.
  • The Dubai Canalopen canal for you to relax. You better watch the waterfall and enjoy the sea water breeze from the canal at Business Bay.
  • The City Walk European-inspired open mall that you can stroll. Be stunned at their artsy murals and designs.
  • Madinat Jumeirah – luxury at its best but this is an open Arabian citadel that you will enjoy to stroll at souks and the view is astonishing.
  • The Box Park - you must enjoy the colorful murals, restaurants and open-park for luxury and entertainment.
  • Dubai Marinayachts, buildings and restaurants are everywhere. Walk around the marina and enjoy the view.
  • Mall Tour malls in Dubai has its own way to entertain tourists, from interior designs, shopping stores and restaurants.

Umm Suqeim Beach Park

Umm Suqeim park is an open beach near the 7 star hotel, Burj Al Arab. The summer here in Dubai is not your ordinary summer. If you really want to go to the beach better early in the morning or sunset hours. Yes, the water is warm and it feels like you are in a sauna or hot spas.

There are few cottages available but almost all of the people are having the picnic style activity near the shore. Toilets and showers are available and free. And busses for public transportation are present but you must know the route that you are going.

Uling at Parilya

Another kind of food trip night on our way while searching for new restaurants in Dubai. Uling at Parilya is the new trend in Satwa Dubai because of its unique Filipino restaurant interior design. All staffs are Filipino and the foods are all about you missed from Philippines.

The vibe is cool and relaxing. They have different kind of foods in the menu but again we choose to have the seafood boodle fight. Haha we love to eat especially the boodle-like foods. There are good for two – five in one boodle.

I think this is the first branch of Uling at Parilya in Dubai.

Located at Manila Building – near Jollibee and La Mesa Restaurant.

JBR - The Beach #SummerBeatTheHeat

Since it’s already summer, dipping under the sea water and shades is one of our goals. Summer here in Dubai is not like your ordinary summer since the temperature is rising every single day. You better experience the morning, noon, afternoon and evening during summer so you can differentiate physically and emotionally what is warm and hot. Haha

Jumeirah Beach Residence – The Beach is an open beach and one of the best places to chill!  All access is here! From beach, restaurants, hotels and entertainments. This is a must-visit destination here in Dubai. During summer, almost all of the tourist and residents starts their strolling and chilling around 3PM – midnight. It is not advisable to go out between 10AM – 3PM because the heat rays of the sun are surreal!

There’s a toilet booth at the nearest beach that cost – 5 dirhams per shower and it will take 1 minute and 30 & you can also change and use the toilet in the said booth.
Honestly, we are more tired changing and showering rather than swimming and enjoying the warm beach water. Haha This is why we feel so exhausted and sleepy after the activity. No more energy to stroll and it is better to go home and sleep as early as we can. Haha
Enjoy the view in Marina at night

  • If you want to go by bus from Al Satwa – Take bus 88 (Dubai Internet City) stop at Beach Center Bus stop then wait for Bus 8 (IBN Battuta Mall) and stop at Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 (JBR 1) and lastly walk for about 10 minutes to The Beach.
PS:  If you want to experience a little tour from Al Satwa – Jumeirah – Marina you can try this transpo and have some patience because you will stop for at least 28 bus stop stations. Hahaha
  • BUT if you want the direct one, you better take METRO! Haha  Stop at DAMAC Properties MS and take tram to JBR. :D

Mall tour for Summer in DXB : IBN Battuta Mall

This is my most favorite malls in Dubai, the IBN Battuta Mall. This is one of the biggest malls in Dubai and you better visit it if you are here. IBN Battuta Mall is divided into (I think) four different concepts of countries of the world, the China, India, Egypt and Tunisia. (correct me if I am wrong) haha

Too many people in malls nowadays because it is summer; six months of summer season in Dubai are really dehydrating if you will go have some outdoor activities. This is the time to enjoy the strolling and shopping at different malls and discover their interior uniqueness.

Yes, it’s obvious! This is my most favorite part here in IBN, the Tunisia corner. Haha As you can see I am the only who has solo pictures.  Sorry not sorry. Haha I’m excited to visit this part since I am a fan of some old style or historical places. The clouds, structures and designs are perfect!!

Egypt! We really want to go here! Maybe someday. But right now we will experience the Egypt-like experience in IBN. The best part in IBN is that the interior and exterior are fully design according to its theme.

The third part is the India themed part. The cultural and significant in India is here and you can really feel that you think you skip from next place to another. IBN never fails us to amaze!

And the last part is the China. Well, I’m really into Chinese tradition style, design and they have more cultural motif. And I think the Chinese Village in IBN is the largest part of the mall. This is my second favorite! We took more pictures here since I am obsessed with traditional Korean-like, Chinese-like and Japanese-like designs. Haha
Visiting IBN while shopping is one of the most relaxing spots in Dubai because 1. Not crowded 2. Entertaining and relaxing and 3. I couldn’t ask for more!  Almost all of my fave spots are here!

Thanks IBN for the 5 stars experience!! J
